India’s Daughter

India and UK

“India’s Daughter is absolutely brilliantly done. The devastation is complete but the real point comes singing over without being pushed. What a vital and incredibly powerful tool has been given to us all” Emma Thompson, actress and writer.

India’s Daughter is a film that tells the story of the short life, and brutal rape and murder in Delhi in December 2012 of an exceptionally inspiring, young woman. The rape and death of the 23-year old medical student sparked unprecedented protest throughout India and lead to the first glimmers of a change in attitude towards violence against women in India.

Interwoven into the storyline are the lives, values and mind-sets of the rapists whom the film-makers have had exclusive access to interview before they hang. The film examines the society and values which spawn such violent acts, and makes an optimistic and impassioned plea for change.

GMSP Foundation believes that the media can be a powerful tool to raise awareness about violence against women and the factors that contribute to this global issue.

This is why GMSP supported India’s Daughter media campaign and screenings in London and Cambridge University.
