Chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and other heart diseases are the single largest cause of death in Mumbai accounting for around 60% of the mortality every year. Most of these deaths are a cause of either very late detection of the condition or irregular management / non-adherence to prescribed treatment due to high cost as well as lack of awareness. Swasth Foundation operates a network of Swasth India Medical Centers (SIMCs), providing access to comprehensive high quality primary health services, at half the market rates, in 2 departments – Family Medicine and Dentistry. The comprehensive services include Doctor Consultation, Diagnostic, Drugs and Day Care Procedures. SIMCs are financially sustainable, breaking even within 1224 months by reaching a footfall of 40 patients per day.
GMSP is working with Swasth to start an SIMC in adjoining areas of Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR). The centre is expected to serve around 15,000 patient visits and reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare of the community by around £26000 within the next 2 years. GMSP is also supporting the capacity building of Swasth’s management team to enable them to acquire training to achieve their goal of scaling their model in the next 3 years.
